Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia by Teddy Sagi together with partners from the casino, software engineering and multimedia industries.

In January 2017 Playtech branched out into Romania and announced a new partnership with
Warner Bros for the development of slots based on DC Comic feature films.
